Vitamin D is a hormone that supports the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus and reduces urinary calcium loss, thereby helping to maintain optimal calcium levels in the body and supporting healthy bone composition.
Vitamin D3 is naturally produced in human skin upon exposure to UVB sunlight. It is increasingly recommended to get around 20 minutes of sun exposure daily (without sunscreen, but outside of peak hours between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.), as it's estimated that this can produce around 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 in the body.
Vitamin D receptors are found in most body cells, including immune cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages.
