Shilajit is a mineral-organic substance that seeps from Himalayan rock faces under the effect of summer heat. It is formed by the very slow decomposition, over millennia, of plant matter — plants, mosses, algae and micro-organisms — trapped in sedimentary rock. Its colour ranges from white to grey and dark brown depending on its origin and degree of refining.
It is collected from steep rock faces at altitudes between 2,000 and 5,000 metres, then purified and concentrated. Its organic fraction is dominated by humic substances — fulvic acids and humic acids — molecules characteristic of soils and derived from the breakdown of plant matter. Nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and a trace mineral fraction are also present.
Shilajit has a long-standing place in traditional Indian pharmacopoeia. This use is a matter of historical practice and does not constitute a health claim within the meaning of European regulations.
Why choose Shilajit?
The shilajit selected by NATURA Medicatrix comes from the Himalayan peaks in India, at over 2,000 metres of altitude, in an environment far from sources of industrial pollution.
It is standardised to 50 % fulvic acid, which ensures a consistent content from batch to batch: each capsule provides 300 mg of shilajit, including 150 mg of fulvic acid. The daily dose of 2 capsules therefore corresponds to 600 mg of shilajit and 300 mg of fulvic acid.
The formula is pared back to the essentials — shilajit and a vegetable capsule made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) — with no additives, no GMOs and no manufacturing excipients. It is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.
Scientific information
Shilajit does not currently benefit from any health claim authorised by the European Commission. As it is not a plant species but a mineral-organic substance, it does not appear among the botanical claims awaiting evaluation by the European Food Safety Authority either.

The mineral fraction of shilajit is present in trace amounts, in quantities far below the thresholds allowing any nutrition claim.
