Benefits
Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic yeast discovered in 1923 by the French scientist Henri Boulard, who isolated it from lychees.
Unlike most microorganisms found in food supplements, which are bacteria, S. boulardii is a yeast: a single-celled microscopic fungus, closely related to baker's yeast.
Each capsule of S. boulardii 400 provides 8 billion live yeast cells, expressed in colony-forming units (CFU), from an identified strain: Saccharomyces boulardii I-3799.
Why choose Be-Life S. boulardii 400?
Be-Life is a Belgian laboratory based in the Crealys science park in Isnes, in the province of Namur, which manufactures its own food supplements.
The product takes its name from the 400mg of yeast contained in each capsule, equivalent to 8 billion CFU. The dosage is simple: one capsule per day, in the morning, 15 minutes before a meal.
The capsule can be opened and its contents mixed with food, making it easier to take for children from 6 years of age and for people who find capsules difficult to swallow.
The formula is kept to the essentials: the yeast, in an acid-resistant plant-based hydroxypropyl methylcellulose capsule coated with pectin. The product is suitable for vegans and is gluten-free, lactose-free and free from nanoparticles.
The amber glass bottle, reusable and recyclable, protects the capsules from moisture, light and oxygen. It covers one month of use.
What does science say?
Taxonomically, Saccharomyces boulardii is now considered a variety of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the species of baker's and brewer's yeast. It differs notably in its ability to grow at 37°C, human body temperature, and in its greater tolerance to acidity.
Strain I-3799 is deposited with the Collection Nationale de Cultures de Micro-organismes (CNCM) at the Institut Pasteur, under the designation CNCM I-3799.
Saccharomyces boulardii is the subject of extensive research. To date, however, no health claim has been authorised in the European Union for this yeast.
Note: Food supplements should not replace a balanced and varied diet.
