Product Details & Mandatory Information:

VEGAN ALGAE OIL
This dietary supplement contains 150 mg of DHA and 75 mg of EPA per capsule.

What are the benefits of EPA & DHA?

EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA).
DHA is an important component for the brain (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA) and contributes to the maintenance of normal vision (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA).

What is algae oil?

Algae are microscopic plants at the bottom of the food chain and are the primary source of omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Algae naturally produce omega-3 fatty acids and serve as food for fatty fish such as herring and sardines, which are therefore rich in these fats.
Vegan algae oil is an omega-3 supplement derived from sustainably cultivated algae. The fermentation process takes place in a clean, closed environment, ensuring the oil is free from pollutants.

What is Omega-3?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids. There are three main types:

  • ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) — found in plant sources such as flaxseed oil, walnut oil, and chia seed oil.

  • EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) — found mainly in oily fish and algae.

Algae oil or fish oil?

Both fish oil and algae oil are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, but there are key differences. Fish oil is extracted from fatty fish species such as salmon, mackerel, and herring, while algae oil comes directly from algae — the original source of omega-3 that fish obtain through their diet.
Both oils contain the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, though in different proportions. Fish oil naturally has higher EPA and DHA content, while algae oil typically contains more DHA and less EPA.

In addition to composition, sustainability plays an important role. Fish oil depends on fishing, whereas algae oil is cultivated sustainably — making it a more environmentally friendly choice. Furthermore, fish oil is an animal product and therefore not suitable for vegans or vegetarians, while algae oil is completely plant-based.

A few key advantages:

  • Algae oil is a sustainable and vegan alternative to fish oil supplements.

  • Algae are grown in a clean, closed environment.

The choice between fish oil and algae oil depends on personal health goals, dietary preferences, allergies, and sustainability considerations.

Algae Oil TOTOX Value

The TOTOX value (Total Oxidation Value) indicates the level of oxidation in fatty acids. This value is not related to spoilage but to the oil’s age — the older the oil, the higher the TOTOX value.
The European guideline sets a maximum TOTOX value of 26. Our algae oil has a TOTOX value of <6.

Sensitivity to oxidation can vary: some people are unaffected by a high TOTOX value, while others may experience mild reflux even at low values.

Some brands use chemical agents to achieve low TOTOX values in fish or algae oil. Our algae oil contains no such chemicals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is algae oil as effective as fish oil?
Yes. Both algae oil and fish oil are effective omega-3 supplements with similar benefits due to their EPA and DHA content. However, the dosage and ratio of these fatty acids may differ between products.

How much algae oil should I take per day?
The recommended daily intake depends on your health goals. For general health, a combined intake of 250–500 mg of EPA and DHA per day is typically recommended.

Is algae oil suitable for pregnant women?
DHA is particularly important during pregnancy. The optimal amount is about 200–250 mg per day. Therefore, choose a product providing up to 250 mg of DHA.

Can algae oil cause side effects?
Generally, algae oil use has no side effects. Some people may experience a mild aftertaste or light reflux.
