The endocrine system is a complex network of organs and glands (thyroid, adrenal glands, ovaries, pituitary gland, etc.) that regulates essential biological functions through the secretion of hormones. These hormones act as chemical messengers to maintain the balance of numerous physiological processes, including metabolism, reproduction, growth, development and the stress response.

Molybdenum contributes to the normal metabolism of sulfur amino acids by acting as a cofactor for enzymes involved in the transformation of sulfur-containing compounds into more easily eliminable forms.
