Biome Balance Everyday combines two bacterial species, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, providing 10 billion live bacteria per capsule at the time of manufacture.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a lactic acid bacterium naturally present in the human digestive tract, while bifidobacteria, including Bifidobacterium bifidum, are among the first bacteria to colonise the infant gut.

Lamberts is a British laboratory whose range is intended for healthcare professionals (“The Professional Supplement Range”). Biome Balance Everyday is the new name of its Acidophilus Extra 10 Billion: a single capsule per day provides 10 billion live bacteria.

The bacteria are protected by delayed-release (DR) capsules with a disintegration time of 105 minutes: the capsule passes through the stomach before releasing its contents in the intestine.

The pot has also been designed to preserve these delicate bacteria: moisture-resistant high-density plastic, a built-in desiccant layer, a spiral wad that limits capsule movement and an easy-to-open cap.

The formula is suitable for vegans and vegetarians. The 60-capsule pot covers two months of use at one capsule per day.

What does science say?

Both species were isolated at the end of the 19th century from infant stools: Bifidobacterium bifidum by Henry Tissier at the Institut Pasteur in 1899, then Lactobacillus acidophilus by Ernst Moro in 1900. They have since become among the most studied bacteria.

The gut microbiota, made up of nearly 40 trillion bacteria, is a particularly active field of research. To date, however, no health claim has been authorised in the European Union for the bacterial strains used in food supplements.
